How to Shop Online Like A Pro

Its no secret i love to shop.

i’m sharing my few secrets on how to shop online like a pro to save you from wasting your money and your time.

I shop online because I’m working part-time, I’m a stay at home mum, I’m a freelance writer, I manage a blog AND I’m studying.

If you’re anything like me you don’t have the time or the patience to shop “bricks and mortar”, its more of an experiential luxury these days.

So here’s how to shop online like a pro!

1. Know your measurements

Knowing your measurements takes the guess work out of knowing if clothing will fit when it arrives.

Grab yourself a sewers measuring tape, you can pick them up from spotlight for about $2, and record your body measurements for;
– Bust (measure around fullest part)
– Waist (measure around natural waistline)
– Hips (measure 20cm down from the natural waistline)
– Thighs (measure around the largest part of upper thighs)

Keep these measurements as a file on your computer and in a list on your phone so no matter where you are, like in bed, you can access them as a reference when you’re ready to buy and ensure you check your numbers against the size chart for each piece of clothing you intend to purchase.

2. Research where to Shop

Whether you’re a lover of the big name department stores or into local small business boutiques it pays to know where to shop.

Do your research by looking into various websites for the things you like to buy and reading the online reviews. Facebook pages are a great place to read customer comments and feedback to gauge how great an online business and its products are. The trick is to look past the one or two bad experiences to find the common consensus.

If you find a website with lots of styles to suit your taste and the reviews are all mostly positive, bookmark it in your favourites tab so its easy to find later when you need it.

If you’re not sure where to start here’s a list of my favourite places to get you on your way;
– St Frock
– Ezibuy
– Asos
– The Iconic
– Spendless Shoes
– Kmart (basics)
– Target

3. Sign up to online newsletters

Sign up to the online newsletters for any stores you really like as they will usually offer a discount for joining their mailing list and you’ll save a few extra bones on your first purchase. You’ll also receive notifications for sales before they’re live or for online only sales.

4. Know what you want

It seems a little obvs but honestly, If i’m browsing on my phone in bed without an end goal you can be sure i’m buying shit i don’t need.

Keep a list in your phone and bookmark the things you want to check out again later so the next time you’re shopping in bed (are you sensing a theme here?) you know exactly what you’re looking for and buying things you need.

5. Follow store Facebook and Instagram accounts

Like store Facebook and Instagram accounts and change your notification settings to “see it first” to get news on seasonal and sale releases before print catalogues have hit your letterbox.

    Awesome post who doesn’t want tips for shopping online. I think signing up to newsletters is the best tip I have found and getting the jump ahead on popular sales.

    I always look online and then so often bail out at the shopping cart. I worry things won’t fit how I think they will. I tend to window shop online and then go to actual shops. Though admittedly I live less than 2klms from a major shopping centre…

      I was the same, i still shop bricks & mortar but do my best work online. Knowing clothing styles that suit your body type (not because it looks good on the model) and knowing your measurements is the best way to avoid that problem. It depends on where you buy from too. Always read the reviews and you can’t go wrong 👌🏻

    Great tips! Knowing your measurements is vital, all online stores have their own version of styling and it can be confusing. I would also add to take note of the model, her height and size and how the garments sit on her.
